My town

Pisa is a very well known town all over the world, thanks to the Leaning tower which enchants every day thousands of tourists. I am very lucky, as I live quite near there and so I can see this “eight wonder” every day. You should not miss a visit to Pisa which is a town rich of ancient monuments which recall us its unforgettable past time when Pisa was very powerful.

Unknown treasure of Pisa

People don’t usually spend much time in Pisa when they come on tour. Because they only want to see the tower. But now I would like to tell you that Pisa has got many other interesting things worth to be seen. So, if you want to see them you must stay at least two days here.

Among the many things you should not miss I can suggest you the visit to the botanical garden : they say it is one of the oldest of Europe, as it was founded in XIV century, then the visit of the big wall near the railway station, painted by Keith Haring, one of the most famous American artist of the last century, the visit to the National museum Of St. Mattew, full of paintings and sculpture of the medieval and bizantin ages. You should go to the St Sepolcro church as well, octagonal shaped and then walk along the river Arno which divides into two parts the town, you will admire the “Spina” a mediaeval Church which lies along the river Arno.

If you like spending in the open air your spare time you can walk or make jogging in San Rossore park, a big wood lying between Pisa and the seaside San Rossore is open only at week ends, while during the week it is closed. Anyway people can enjoy going to the Scotto Garden which is a fortress build in the XVI and recently restored.

Pisa By Night

It important to say that recently many places in Pisa have a new light. In fact, starting from last year, in many places were put new lamps to let people see them at night. In particular a part of the mediaeval walls surrounding the old part of the town, The knights square (even if not everybody here in Pisa seems to like it very much) and also the Piagge Boulevard, a road with many old big old trees on both sides, far from the noisy traffic where people enjoy cycling, jogging or meeting during the day but that it usually became dangerous when it got dark because it was not illuminated enough. Now we hope that the new lamps make this place more sure.

Pisa is very young

Pisa is full of young people, as here there is one of the oldest and biggest university of Italy. Nowadays the students are about 30 thousands and they are scattered into 10 faculties.

On the other hand, if you want to know more about Pisa, its people, its places here you are some nice sites (not every one has got an English version).
